AI Making of: 01 In the Arctic
“Hallo Menschheit” portrays a humanity trapped inside its own technical images, consumer rituals, and self-produced illusions—where signs of comfort replace awareness of catastrophe.
What appears as progress becomes an acceleration toward collapse. As Paul Virilio suggested, every technology is a tool that invents its own accident; here the accident is planetary. The masses continue their routines—eating, consuming, competing—while the horizon of disaster is already visible, yet culturally unthinkable. The repeated call, “Hallo Menschheit,” is a final philosophical address: a voice speaking into a society that can no longer hear itself. As in Maupassant’s darker reflections on human vanity, the tragedy lies not in evil but in ordinary blindness. The song thus becomes a diagnosis of late civilization—a moment in which awareness may already be too late.
The making-of reflects the constructed nature of the images themselves. Framed as a documentary, it generates another narrative about their production. Images have never been reality, they are shaped by the tools that produce them.
Andy Simanowitz is an AI-generated singer—an artificial persona constructed through tools & trained on the real presence, but reimagined story of the Berlin based artist and musician Andy Simanowitz.
As a ‘real’ musician, he performs live on stage beyond - and as the avatar.
The AI Superstar emerges as a doppelgänger.
Like in the book „Snow crash“ (1992, Neal Stephenson) the avatar is the hero protagonist, he is the main hero in the story.
Where do you live
Our electronic revolutions created systems, that generate and provide form, surface, rhythm, and presence.
Especially in the domain of images, these tools do not merely create representations; they generate perception itself.
When stories and images are synthesized, reality reorganizes around them.
How does it feel
Perception also shifts, when form is synthesised and automated.
In the synthetic image, the mirrorimage is no longer “human”.
The AI reflects back an imagined world.
The dream machine can show you whatever wonderfull worlds you are possible to imagine, and it can reflect your deep human desires.
What is the story
The project functions as a demonstration of an ongoing cultural transformation:
the shift from lived experience to image-based narrative.
What is reality
The question is no longer „what is real“, but „how reality is felt“ when its reflection is no longer anchored in a living body.
